Studying French at KS4

We follow the Pearson GCSE French Specification (2024)This is made up of six thematic contexts:

  • My personal world
  • Lifestyle and wellbeing
  • My neighbourhood
  • Media and technology
  • Studying and my future
  • Travel and tourism

Pupils study a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures within each of these topics across KS4 as well as developing their knowledge of phonics. Pupils are examined in the 4 skill areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing which carry equal weighting to make up their final overall GCSE grade.


Career pathways in Languages
Languages can be studied alongside many other subjects and open up lots of career opportunities, not to mention the possibility of working and studying abroad.
Jobs typically associated with languages studies are interpreting, translating and teaching, however many languages graduates work in other fields such as finance, administration, diplomacy, marketing, business, logistics and public relations, to name but a few!
