Cedars Academy Shines at Sportshall Athletics Competition

Recently, 20 students from The Cedars Academy enjoyed competing in the annual Sportshall Athletics event at Wreake Valley Academy in Syston.

Battling against four other schools from North Leicestershire, the Cedars team – which was made up of boys and girls in Year 7 and Year 8 – participated in a wide range of sporting events designed to test various aspects of athletic ability.

Their speed and agility were tested through various sprinting events which ranged from two to eight laps of the sports hall. Meanwhile, strength and power were under the microscope with field events such as vertical jump, standing long jump, standing triple jump and the shot putt.

The Year 7 Boys finished in second place, as did the Year 8 Boys. The Year 7 Girls finished fifth, whilst the Year 8 Girls secured fourth place.

After the event, students each voted for their top performer. The Year 7 Boys winner was Jack, whilst Ava was selected for the Year 7 Girls. The Year 8 top performers were Jack for the boys and then Ishra for the girls.

The students were terrific role models for the school, cheering each other on and upholding commendable conduct.
