GCSE Art and Design Courses
GCSE Art & Design Courses
At Cedars we offer 3 Courses from the OCR Art and Design Suite: Fine Art; Photography and Textiles.
These courses offer students the opportunity to develop creativity, technical skills, critical understanding, and personal expression through practical and theoretical study. Across all pathways, students are encouraged to explore ideas, experiment with materials and processes, analyse the work of artists and designers, and create a personal portfolio that demonstrates their artistic journey.
Course Structure
These courses are divided into 2 Components:
- Personal Portfolio (60%) – a body of coursework developed throughout the course; starting in Y10 Term 1 and completing in Y11 term 1. Every lesson works towards developing skills, whilst selecting and presenting the best work for the portfolio.
- Externally Set Assignment (40%) – a project set by OCR, culminating in a sustained final outcome. This starts in Y11 Term 2, where students complete 12 weeks of preparation work, that leads to a 10-hour practical exam, which is an opportunity to create their most successful masterpiece.
During each project students will:
-
